[Jason's Sketchpad - History] [inline image]

The legacy of the sketchpad began in high school. Each boring classroom lecture led to a pen sketch amongst my notes. After a while, it occurred to me that having my sketches scattered amongst dozens of separate notebooks and cluttered with meaningless classroom drivel was unsatisfactory. So I decided to dedicate a single notebook to sketches and carry it around to all my classes, adding to it when boredom hit (which was often).

And that is the beginning of a tradition. Give me one sturdy Mead Five-Star notebook and a Pilot Precise V5 pen tucked into the notebook's spiral binding, and you've got the Bored-Enough-To-Draw notebook series.

Why a notebook and pen? Why not a real sketchpad and a drawing pencil? It was originally an attempt to disguise my stealthy sketching during class, to make it appear as if I was diligently taking notes. Well, old habits die hard. Now it is my belief that my best work comes out of a freehand sketch with ink on college-ruled paper.

From the early days of my incredibly horrible very first attempts at Japanese anime/manga-style art, to today's equally horrible attempts at Japanese anime/manga-style art, here I present the full collection of the Bored-Enough-To-Draw notebook...
